1990 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships

The 54th World Ice Hockey Championships and 65 Hockey Championship of Lords in 1990 were held at the following locations and on the following dates:

A total of 28 teams took part in these World Championships. In Competition mode, there were no changes in this year. The individual groups played the same way as in the previous year.

The USSR won their 22nd World Championship titles and showed everyone that they had learned from past mistakes. 1985 and 1987 they had gambled by sovereign Preliminary its title in the final round. This time, the Soviets were in the first round only at # 3, but then played great in the final round, and won the championship safely. Victims of Competition mode this time were the Canadians who drove a preliminary round winners at the end without a medal home. Were allowed to cheer the way the Swedes; they were not only vice world champion, but her victory over the USSR and her second place in the group stage behind Canada gave them their tenth European title.

The 14th U20 World Junior Championship was held this year at the following locations:

  • Youth A World Championship: December 26, 1989 to January 4, 1990 in Helsinki, Turku, inter alia, (Finland )
  • Junior B World Cup: March 20-April 4 in Geretsried and Bad Tölz ( Germany)
  • Junior C Championship: March 16 to March 25 in Eindhoven ( Netherlands)

A total of 23 teams took part, Canada was the fourth time world champion.

For the first time a Women's World Ice Hockey Championships were held this year. The first World Cup tournament took place from 19 to 25 March in Ottawa, Canada. The Championship was held with 8 teams; eligible were next to host Canada and the United States, the five best teams in the Hockey Championship 1988 ( Finland, Sweden, West Germany, Norway, Switzerland ) and the Asian champions in 1988, with runner-up Japan represented the waiving champion China. First Women's World Cup was Canada.
