2005 WTA Tour Championships
The WTA Championships 2005 ( also known as Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Championships ) was an indoor tennis hard court tournament for women in Los Angeles, United States. The tournament was held until 13 November 2005 at the Staples Center on 8.
The Russian Maria Sharapova in the singles and the duo Nadezhda Petrova and Meghann Shaughnessy in doubles were the defending champions.
Winner of the single was Amélie Mauresmo, Mary Pierce defeated with 5:7, 7:63 and 6:4. The double title secured Lisa Raymond / Samantha Stosur against Cara Black / Rennae Stubbs with 6:75, 7:5 and 6:4

Qualification
The top eight ladies of the WTA Tour qualified for this competition. In addition there were two reservists.
Competition mode
In the round-robin tournament phase (English Round Robin ), played four players in two groups each against all. The two winners of each group qualified for the semi-finals, which was held after the knockout system. The winner of each group played against the second of the other group and the winners of these games contested the final.
