2006–07 National League A season

The 2006/ 07 was the 69th regular season of the National League A, in which the same teams played like in the last season, as the EHC Biel lost the play-offs against the NLA table Latter- Fribourg- Gottéron. The HC Davos defeated the SC Bern in the playoff final with 4:3 victories, becoming the 28th time Swiss champion. The SCL Tigers lost the playout against the EHC Basel, but secured in the League qualifier against EHC Biel to remain in the first division.

Mode

Be played by the 12 teams 2 double rounds of 22 games. After that, the best eight teams in the playoffs determine the champion Swiss style. Quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals are played respectively by the mode best -of-seven.

The other four teams identify in the play- outs that team that has to play in the league against the champions of the National League B.

Main Round

On Sunday, 14 January 2007, a new European attendance record for a hockey league game was the Bern derby between SCL Tigers and SC Bern ( 2:5 ) in the Bernese football stadium Stade de Suisse with 30 076 spectators placed. The previous record dates back to 1963, when the Frölunda HC of Gothenburg, Sweden played on an open ice rink in front of 23,192 spectators.

The HC Davos signed the qualification with a total of 28 victories in front of the SC Bern. The ZSC Lions placed as last among the top eight, reaching the playoffs. The HC Ambri -Piotta, Fribourg- Gottéron, the SCL Tigers and EHC Basel missed the playoffs and had to compete in the playdowns.

Play-Offs

The NLA clubs could choose for the first time the playoff opponents even in the season of 2006 /2007. Compared to each NLB those opponents were chosen in the playoff and playout selection of the NLA, however, which would have been obtained even after the old playoff mode.

League qualifier

During the EHC Basel certainly also played the following season in the National League A, the SCL Tigers had to play for the league against the NLB champion EHC Biel. They won the series 4-1 victories clear ( 4:1,5:2,2:5,6:1,5:3 ) and remained so in the National League A.
