2008–09 Azerbaijan Premier League
The Premyer Liqasi 2008/ 09 was the seventeenth edition of the highest soccer league in Azerbaijan. The season was the last, which was attended by 14 clubs. For the 2009/10 season Unibank Premyer Liqasi reduced to 12 clubs. The season began on 9 August 2008 and ended on 17 May 2009. Champion was FK Baku before the defending champions FK Inter Baku.
Statistics
A total of 443 goals were scored, corresponding to an average of 2.43 goals per game. The two biggest wins celebrated champions FK Baku: at home you won 7-0 against Turan, same result, there was the away game at Bakili Baku PFK. Before the start of the season, on 8 July 2008, the FK Masallı withdrew and was replaced by the FK NBC Salyan. On October 31, the club changed its name to FK Mugan Salyan. The top clubs

The relegation battle
The last three places were eventually occupied by the three newcomers.
