2008 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup

The U-17 World Cup Women 2008 was the first playout of this competition for soccer players under 17 years (deadline: January 1, 1991) and took place from October 28 to November 16, 2008 in New Zealand instead. New Zealand were linked to the men's U -17 World Cup in 1999 for the second time a FIFA tournament. It was attended by 16 teams in the tournament.

World champion North Korea was a 2-1 final win after extra time against the United States. Third place went to Germany, which turned the top scorer of the tournament with Dzsenifer Marozsán.

Qualification

The oceanic association had only a starting place that was automatically assigned to the host New Zealand.

From Europe, the four participants in the U-17 European Championship took part in the World Cup. In April 2008, the second qualifying round games were played, the winner is qualified for the finals discharged in May 2008.

The qualifiers in Asia has been played at the U -17 Asia Cup in Malaysia. Tournament winner was North Korea with a 3-0 final victory over Japan. The third World Cup starting place South Korea secured by a victory on penalties against the People's Republic of China.

The South American participants were identified in the CONMEBOL U -17 Championship in Chile. The winner was Colombia against Brazil. The third place went to Paraguay, the opposite Argentina had a better goal difference.

In North America, the top three teams in the CONCACAF U -17 Championship took part in the World Championship.

The two African participants were determined in May 2008.

After the FIFA Regulations for the tournament consists of group matches and then the quarter-finals, semi-finals, third-place match and the final. Playing time is twice 45 minutes.

The 16 participants formed four preliminary round groups of four teams, of which the top two qualified for the quarter-finals. In the group stage, each team played each of the other teams in the group after the championship mode, where one point was awarded for a win and three points for a draw. Goods after completion of the group two or more teams have equal points, first decide the results of the matches. It was used as the first criterion the score. Also this was the same, so initially decided the goal difference and then the number of goals scored. If there was still equality, fair play rankings was used. The final criterion would be a drawing of lots.

From the quarter- finals, the tournament was continued in the knockout system, with the winner of the match qualified for the next round. Games that ended tied at the end of normal time, were extended for two periods of 15 minutes. If there's still no decision have fallen, it came to the penalty shootout.

Preliminary round

The draw was held in Wellington, New Zealand on June 1, 2008. Since not all qualifiers were completed, were missing at the time of the draw, five teams from North America and Africa. After qualifying was over, these teams were assigned to their respective groups on 28 July 2008. All times are in New Zealand local time ( GMT 12 hours ).
