2011 Indian Premier League

The Indian Premier League 2011 was the fourth season of the discharged in the Twenty20 format competition for Indian cricket team and took place between April 8 and 28 May 2011. For the first time the season was played with ten teams after two new teams Kochi and Pune were founded. Winners of the championship were the Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated the in the final with 58 runs. In addition to the two finalists also the Mumbai Indians have qualified for the Champions League Twenty20 2011.

Format

The tournament is divided into two phases. Since the format would have Free-for -All in the first round too many games means the teams were divided into two subgroups, the rating is, however, as if they all play in a group. In the group stage the teams were divided into two groups of five teams. Here, each team plays against the teams in the own group one home and away match against four teams in the other group, only one game and against the remaining team is also a home and away game. So each team comes to 14 preliminary matches. There are no points for a win, two for a loss. If no result can be found, both teams get one point each. Event of a tie after the regular number of over the decision a Super Over is performed. Also the playoffs at the end of the tournament have been modified, they are now held in the Page playoff system. This occurred in a first round in the preliminary round against the first - second and third preliminary round against the - fourth. The winner of the first game is for the finals directly qualified. The losers face off against the winner of the second game, the winner of which in turn qualified for the finals. For the Champions League Twenty20 2011, the first two group and the winner of the second game of the first playoff round between the third and fourth group qualify.
