61st British Academy Film Awards
The 61st British Academy Film Awards were held on 10 February 2008 at the Royal Opera House in London. The nominations - with the exception of the Young Investigator Award Orange Rising Star Award and the nominees for the best foreign-language film - was announced on 16 January 2008. Favorite was the already the winner of the Golden Globe Award Drama Atonement with 14 nominations. The Oscar -nominated film by British director Joe Wright sat by as the best film of the year and Best in Category Design, while the Alexander Korda Award for Best British film Shane Meadows social drama This is England triumphed.
To the most successful film of the evening became Olivier Dahan's Edith Piaf Biography La vie en rose. The French cinema production received four awards, in addition to three technical categories, the Golden Globe winner and also nominated for the Academy Award actress Marion Cotillard was successful. She received inter alia against the British mitfavorisierten Julie Christie ( Away From Her ) preference. Three awards won Ethan and Joel Coen's No Country for Old Men The U.S. thriller that dominated the American film award season, received, among other things, the contract for the Director and Supporting Actor Price ( Javier Bardem ). Best Actor, the award-winning British- Irish actor Daniel Day- Lewis sat ( There Will Be Blood ), among others, against the posthumously nominated Ulrich Mühe ( The Lives of Others ) by, best supporting actress was the Briton Tilda Swinton (Michael Clayton ). The best foreign-language film production last year's German Oscar winner was named The Lives of Others by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck.
