Aarsdale (also Årsdale ) is located on the east coast of Bornholm between Svaneke and Nexø fishing village with 449 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013). The name Aarsdale was first mentioned in 1410 as Osdael what as much as bedrock or Tal said.

History

In the village there are still more than 200 years old, well-preserved half-timbered houses. The small town for the relatively large fishing harbor was built in 1869 and expanded in 1959. With at times over 30 trawlers fishing yielded high fishing quotas. In 2007, only seven boats registered, a consequence of the decline of fishing. From formerly several smokehouses in place today exists only one.

The landmark of the place and a much visited tourist attraction is the still functioning Dutch windmill dating from the year 1877. She is one of 13 surviving on Bornholm windmills and one of the best preserved mills in Denmark, operated the fourth generation.
