Hasle (Bornholm)

Hasle is a Danish harbor town in the middle of the west coast of the island of Bornholm, which is closely linked with the history of the island. It was here in 1658 the men together to rid the Bornholm under the leadership of Jens Koefoed by the Swedish occupation force decided. In the town of 1683 inhabitants ( 1 January 2013).

Hasle is about eleven kilometers north of Ronne and about seven kilometers west of Klemensker.

Worth seeing is the church, the oldest part is the late Gothic nave. She has a Low German altar from the 17th century. At the cemetery, born in Hasle tenor Vilhelm Herold (1865-1937) is buried.

In July Hasle celebrates the herring festival. South of the harbor there used herring smokehouses. They were repaired and operated the old way. In one of the smokehouses an exhibition showing the history of the herring smokehouse. The smoking of herring occurs with wet alder wood. In the harbor, especially Bornholm granite, fish and cereals are handled.

Economy

End of the 18th century, people dug on Bornholm to coal. This clay layers were removed, which proved to be of high quality raw material. So Muleby developed in the neighboring village which was once widely known beyond Denmark Hasle Klinker -og Chamottestensfabrik, which existed from 1843 to about 1997 and was in the 1950s, with up to 1,200 employees, the largest employer of Bornholm. Their products are conveyed with a specially built narrow gauge railway, the railway industry Hasle Klinker -og Chamottestensfabrik from the factory to the port of Hasle.

Through the coal search produced two artificial lakes:

  • The Smaragdsø located in clinker factory in Muleby, from the Baltic Sea separated only by a causeway and the beach.
  • The Rubinsø with its densely vegetated steep banks is a bit closer to the city Hasle.

South Hasle are pine forests and stony sandy beach. The northern coast is rocky and reaches more than 40 meter high cliffs of Jons Kapel and Hvidkleven considerable extent. The itinerary then Redningsstien along the coast of the fishing villages Helligpeder and Teglkås after Hammershus.

To the east of the town is at the fork to Rønne, Hasle and Klemensker the highest with over three meters Runestone Bornholm, the Brogårdsstenen.
