Adel Safar

Adel Safar (Arabic: عادل سفر, DMG ʿ Adil Safar, * 1953) is a Syrian politician and academic who served as Prime Minister of his country of 3 April 2011 to 23 June 2012.

Life and career

Safar was born in the countryside of Damascus. He received his degree in agronomy in 1977 at the University of Damascus, 1983, a diploma from the École Nationale Supérieure d' Agronomy et des Industries Alimentaires ( ENSAIA ) in Nancy, France, and a Ph.D. in Biotechnology at the ENSAIA in 1987.

He is a member of the Baath Party since 1990. In September 2003 he was appointed Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform in the Cabinet of Muhammad Naji al - Utri. On March 31, he entered at the request of the Prime Minister Otari together with the rest of the cabinet back.

Safar belongs to the Alawite minority, is married and has four children.
