Alt Empordà

The comarca of Alt Empordà (Spanish: Alto Ampurdán; German: Alt Empordà ) is an administrative unit in the province of Girona of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia (Spain). Alt Empordà was 1936, when the historic county Empordà ( German: Empordà ) was divided. The community association has an area of ​​1339.01 km ² and 138 501 inhabitants (2009 ).

Location

The community association is bordered to the west by the Comarcas Garrotxa and Pla de l' Estany, to the south Gironès and Baix Empordà, in the east on the 115 km long coast of the Mediterranean Sea and in the north to the French Département of Pyrénées- Orientales. Alt Empordà lies in the far east of Catalonia, in a vast plain, which is crossed by the rivers Muga and Fluvia. In the north and west are the foothills of the Pyrenees. Economy
