The guano deposits on Remire were once highly sought after. Most of this natural fertilizer was dismantled after the First World War.

Today is located on the island only a small hotel on the northwest coast. Remire has long also has a 457 meter paved airstrip ( ICAO code FSSR ) that visually divides almost equally large sectors of the island in two.
