Andrew Ference

Andrew Ference ( born March 17, 1979 in Edmonton, Alberta ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player on the position of the defender standing since July 2013 when the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League contract.

Career

Andrew Ference began his career as a hockey player in the Western Hockey League with the Portland Winter Hawks. After three years in Portland he was selected as a total 208 players from the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL Entry Draft in 1997. Ference played two more years in Portland and also played five times in the International Hockey League for the Kansas City Blades before he was taken in summer 1999 in the cadre of Pittsburgh's farm team, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League. On 1 October 1999, the Canadians made ​​his debut in the National Hockey League in a game against the Dallas Stars. On 13 November 1999 the defender against the Nashville Predators scored his first NHL goal. On February 9, 2003 Ference was delivered to the Calgary Flames.

In the 2003 / 04 season, Ference and his team reached the Stanley Cup finals, but lost to Calgary to Tampa Bay Lightning. During the lockout the NHL season 2004/ 05 Ference played in the Czech Extraliga for HC České Budějovice. Following the resumption of gaming operations in the NHL Ference returned for two more seasons with the Calgary Flames.

On February 10, 2007 Ference was given along with Chuck Kobasew in exchange for Brad Stuart and Wayne Primeau to the Boston Bruins. In July 2013 he signed a four year contract with the Edmonton Oilers and was appointed in September to the captain of his new club.

Internationally

Ference represented his country at the U20 World Youth Championship in 1999. During the tournament he scored a goal and two assists. In the final match he defeated with Canada against Russia and won the silver medal.
