Brad Stuart

William Bradley Stuart ( born November 6, 1979 in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who plays for the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League on the position of the defender since June 2012.

Career

Stuart played before the start of his professional career from 1995 to 1999 at the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League. This transferred him during the 1998/99 season to the Calgary Hitmen, with whom Stuart was able to win the championship of the WHL at the end of the season. In addition, the Canadians secured the prize for the best defender of the Canadian Hockey League, the merger of the Canadian junior leagues. In the summer of 1999, Stuart was then taken by the San Jose Sharks under contract after they selected him in the NHL Entry Draft in 1998 in third position in the first round.

For the season 1999 /00 Stuart was the same in the Sharks squad and played in his first season all 82 season games. He recorded a total of 36 points. Stuart remained also the following four seasons in San Jose, but was able to surpass the point yield from his rookie season only once. During the NHL lockout in 2004 /05 Stuart did not play. It was not until the 2005/06 season he returned to the ice. After disappointing performances of his person and the rest of the team of the Sharks at the start of the season Stuart was, along with Marco Sturm and Wayne Primeau, issued on 30 November 2005 for Joe Thornton in a swap deal to the Boston Bruins. With a total of 43 points, of which twelve gates, Stuart turned in all offensive categories on new personal records. On 10 February 2007, the Canadian was then transferred again. Since his contract expired at the end of season, and the Bruins did not expect that he would renew his contract, they gave him, together with Wayne Primeau and a draft law on to Calgary. In turn, Chuck Kobasew and Andrew Ference Boston received. With the Flames, he reached the playoffs, but failed already in the first round.

In summer 2007, Stuart signed a contract with the Los Angeles Kings, where he spent but a rather unsuccessful time as the Los Angeles Kings for a long time occupied the last place in the NHL. End of February 2008 Stuart was transferred from the Kings for a second and a fourth- round draft pick in the NHL Entry Draft in 2008 to the Detroit Red Wings. After nine games in the regular season for Detroit but he was injured and did not return until the playoffs back in the squad. In the second line of defense, he played together with Niklas Kronwall and both could, especially in the final series against the Pittsburgh Penguins show off their skills, as they kept the young stars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin in check. In addition, Stuart sat in the final round in the offensive accents, prepared in six games and scored four goals before even the winning goal in the second game. Finally, Detroit won the Stanley Cup in the sixth game of the series.

A few weeks after the end of the playoffs, the Red Wings extended his contract for another four years.

On June 10, 2012, the rights for Stuart to the San Jose Sharks were transferred. In exchange, the Red Wings were given the rights to Andrew Murray and a conditional right to vote for the seventh round of the NHL Entry Draft in 2014. Eight days later it was announced that Stuart had signed a three -year contract for $ 10.8 million with the Sharks. On October 8, 2013 Stuart was suspended due to a check against Rick Nash for three games.

Internationally

On the international stage Stuart ran for a total of three tournaments for the Canadian national team, which once at junior level. In the U20 World Youth Championship 1999, he was able to win with the team silver medal. He also took part in the World Championships in 2001 and 2006.
