Aniplex

K. K. Aniplex (Japanese株式会社 アニプレックス, Anipurekkusu Kabushiki - gaisha, Eng. Aniplex Inc.) manufactures and distributes anime, as well as associated products such as music and merchandising.

The company was established in September 1995 as a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan called KK SPE Music Publishing (株式会社SPE ·ミュージック パブリッシング) was founded. In January 1997, the name change followed in K. K. SPE Visual Works (株式会社SPE ·ビジュアル ワークス) and after the complete takeover by Sony Music Entertainment Japan in January 2001 in KK SME Visual Works (株式会社SME ·ビジュアル ワークス) and finally in April 2003 to KK Aniplex.

The first anime production was from January 1996 broadcast series Rurouni Kenshin and the first film Ruroni Kenshin - Meiji Kenkaku Romantan - Ishin Shishi e no Requiem of December 1997.

100 % owned subsidiaries companies are the animation studio A-1 Pictures, the mobile phone software developers Bancho Seisakujo and the U.S. distributor Aniplex of America Inc.
