Arrondissement of Ambert

The district Ambert is an administrative district in the Puy -de- Dôme in the Auvergne region of France.

History

On 4 March 1790, founded with the establishment of the department of Puy -de- Dôme, a " district Ambert " which coincided essentially with the present arrondissement. From the district was the district Ambert with the founding of the arrondissement on February 17, 1800.

From September 10 1926 to June 1, 1942, the district was dissolved, the area belonged at that time to the Arrondissement of Thiers.

Geography

The district is bordered to the north by the Arrondissement of Thiers, on the east by the district Montbrison in the Loire department ( Rhone- Alpes), to the south by the arrondissement Le Puy -en- Velay and Brioude in the Haute- Loire, on the west by the district Issoire and to the northwest by the district of Clermont- Ferrand.
