Augustin Reed Humphrey

Augustin Reed Humphrey ( born February 18, 1859 in Madison, Indiana, † December 10, 1937 in Fort Collins, Colorado ) was an American politician. Between 1922 and 1923 he represented the sixth electoral district of the state of Nebraska in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Augustin Humphrey retired in 1864 from Drake Ville in Davis County, Iowa. There he attended the public schools and then to 1881, the State Normal School in Bloomfield. After a subsequent law studies at the University of Iowa in Iowa City and his 1882 was admitted as a lawyer Humphrey began in Broken Bow ( Nebraska) to work in his new profession.

Augustin Humphrey was a member of the Republican Party. Between 1887 and 1936 he visited all regional party days in Nebraska. In his new home, Humphrey was also active in agriculture and especially in cattle breeding. Between 1891 and 1895 he was commissioner of the state government of Nebraska for public buildings; 1898 to 1914 he headed the Education Committee of the town of Broken Bow. He was from 1906 to 1910 and judge of the probate court and 1916-1917 mayor. In 1920 he moved to his ranch on the South Loop River.

After the death of Congressman Moses P. Kinkaid Humphrey was elected in a by-election to succeed him in Congress. There he finished between November 7, 1922, the March 3, 1923 Kinkaids tenure. In the regular congressional elections of 1922, he opted not to run again. After the end of his short time in Congress Humphrey again worked as a lawyer in Broken Bow. He died during a visit to Colorado.
