Silas Reynolds Barton

Silas Reynolds Barton ( born May 21, 1872 in New London, Henry County, Iowa; † November 7, 1916 in Grand Iceland, Nebraska ) was an American politician. Between 1913 and 1915 he represented the fifth electoral district of the state of Nebraska in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Already moved in 1873 Silas Barton with his parents in the Hamilton County in Nebraska. There he attended the Aurora High School and Peru State Normal School. He then worked as a farmer and teacher. Between 1898 and 1901 he was deputy treasurer in Hamilton County. Between 1901 and 1908 he was a leading member of a now defunct fraternity named " Ancient Order of United Workmen of Nebraska ".

Barton was a member of the Republican Party. Between 1909 and 1913 he was head of the Court (State Auditor ) of Nebraska and at the same insurance commissioner of this state. He was also a member of the nationwide association of all state insurance commissioner. 1912 Barton was selected in the fifth district of Nebraska in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he replaced George W. Norris on March 4, 1913. In Congress, he completed until March 3, 1915 only one legislative period. He strove in 1916 to a bid again, but died before the elections.
