The HK Barys Astana ( Kazakh and Russian ХК Барыс Астана ) is an ice hockey club from the Kazakh Astana. The club was founded in 1999 and participates in the 2008/09 season in the game operation of the Kontinental Hockey League. The second team of the club plays in the Kazakh Cup.

History

The club was founded in 1999 and first played in the third highest Russian league and in the Wysschaja League, the second highest Russian class. In the latter, the team was in 2007 ascended to reach the second place in the championship right away. There was also in the Kazakh Cup in the same season, the first title. By the second place in the league Wysschaja and the existing financial resources, the team plays from the 2008/09 season in the Kontinental Hockey League.

In the season 2008/ 09 Barys occupied after the last three matches were all won even the 15th place in the preliminaries and thus qualified for the play-offs, where the team than in the first knockout round against Ak Bars Kazan after three defeats the underdog proved. In the following season 2009/10 the team was able to conquer the sixth place in the East in the main round. In the play-offs was again the team from Kazan in the second round the stronger. There have been lost, as in the previous year, all three comparisons, but the first meeting was not decided until the 106th minute. Furthermore, the captain Kevin Dallman absence was noticeable, which was locked after the last match of the main round for three games. In the 2010/11 season the team finished second in the Eastern Conference seventh place, although the team for the Asian Winter Games in 2011 - which Barys had to park 15 players for the Kazakh national ice hockey team - had to perform a much more densely packed Schedule. In subsequent play-offs failed the club, as in previous years, in the second round of Ak Bars Kazan. In the best- of-seven mode Astana lost with 0:4 games.

The second team plays since 2009 in the Kazakh Cup and was in season 2010/11 runners-up.
