Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy

The Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy is an ice hockey trophy, which is awarded by the National Hockey League annually to the player in the NHL, the perseverance, dedication and fairness shows in and for the Hockey.

The winner is determined by a poll of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association. The award may, however, in contrast to the other trophies will be awarded only once to a single player. Also the selection is different. Instead of the usual three players who can be chosen to stand at the election of the Masterton Trophy- winner of a pro team, so 30 candidates to choose from.

The trophy was named after the late William Masterton, a player of the Minnesota North Stars, named. William Masterton died on 15 January 1968, an injury that he incurred during a game.

The trophy was first awarded in 1968.
