Bimöhlen

Bimöhlen is a municipality in the district of Segeberg in Schleswig-Holstein. The district court pasture and part of the wildlife parks Eekholt lie in the municipality.

Geography and transport

Bimöhlen is located about four kilometers east of Bad Bramstedt and twelve kilometers south of Neumünster in a rural environment. To the west runs the Federal Highway 7 from Hamburg to Flensburg.

The hare Moor in the south of the municipality is under protection. The soils in Bimöhlen are mainly sandy and peat.

History

Geological evidence finds that the municipality has been inhabited since the Neolithic period. There are also some Bronze Age grave mound.

The town was first mentioned in 1189. In the Middle Ages there were in Bimöhlen a castle, of which the remains are preserved today, which are listed buildings. The place was originally a Rundling.

In rabbits moor peat was mined until 1973 as fuel and partly supplied to Neumünster.

Policy

Of the eleven seats in the municipal council, the CDU has since the local elections of 2013 six seats, the Bimöhler Wählergemeinschaft (BWG) and the FDP two three.
