Brønnøy is a Norwegian municipality in the province of Nordland.

The center of the municipality is the place Brønnøysund with around 5,000 inhabitants. The Municipality of total 7872 people live ( as of March 31, 2013). Brønnøy is one of the few municipalities in the northern part of Norway that can boast a population growth.

The municipality is 1041 km ². It is located almost exactly in the middle between the southernmost point in Norway and the North Cape Cape Lindesnes. The landscape is very diverse, it consists of fjords, islets and mountains. The highest elevation is the Breivasstinden ( 1224 m), the longest fjords of the 32 km long Tosenfjord (part of the Bindalsfjord ) followed by the 31-km Velfjord.

History

The municipality Brønnøy received its present size in 1977 was spun off as Sømna as a separate municipality. The coat of arms of the municipality dates from 1988 and shows a navigation point.
