Federal highway 431 ( Abbreviation: B 431 ) is a federal highway in northern Germany. It runs from Hamburg -Altona to Meldorf in Schleswig-Holstein.

History

Federal highway 431 was only established in the 1970s, although the associated roads were built in the 19th century as an art roads ( highways ). The section between Uetersen and Elmshorn contrast, is based on an old military road from the 12th century. The westernmost section between Meldorf Itzehoe and was built in 1855 and later interrupted by the North Sea-Baltic Canal.

Course

The B 431 starts in the district Hamburg- Altona-Nord at the highway 4 in direct vicinity to the Holsten-Brauerei. It leads in a westerly direction on the motorway A7 (motorway exit 28 " Hamburg -Bahr field") across the Elbvororte in the district of Altona, whose main traffic artery it forms, according to Wedel ( Schleswig -Holstein).

Between Sülldorf and cracks it is since November 1984 as a highway expanded ( with a speed limit on max. 80 km / h ) and is parallel to the line S1 of the Hamburg S-Bahn. This route is known as " Rissener Canyon ". It relieves the Ortsdurchfahrt cracks, which was little traffic.

Through the narrow streets of the old town Wedel B 431 leads northward through Holm, Heist and Moorrege. Shortly thereafter, she bends after the overpass over the Pinnau in Uetersen turns west, then turn north to continue the level of the former district hospital on Geestrand. About uppercase and lowercase north end they reached Elmshorn.

The B 431 now leads westward to lucky town in the district of Steinburg and on about the Störsperrwerk away to Brokdorf, which is known for its nuclear power plant. North of St. Margaret meets the road in a driveway on the main road 5 The earlier joint development of national highways 5 and 431 to Bekdorf at Wilster was abandoned several years ago and the B 431 between Bekdorf about Hochdonn (ferry ) to Nindorf east of Meldorf to country road graded. Now the B leads 431 of Meldorf (B 5) Nindorf to motorway junction Albers village on the A 23

Planning

Planning before looked to move the section after the dual carriageway in Hamburg- cracks especially for a bypass of fronds on a more southerly route. In order specified in the Wedel 1982 planning calming the Wedel -town is to be saved. The course is provided by the Wedeler Au and Wedeler march up to the moraine to the Holmer Road on the eastern outskirts frond. The " Vorhalteflächen " left hand of the B 431 from fronds are coming to recognize good by its oblique course at the beginning of the Holmer Road.

From there, the B 431 is connected to the previous rest. Thus they would be running four lanes in the western part of Hamburg as well as in the bypass Wedel and eliminated a bottleneck in transit. The project is still planned, but only in more demand for highway construction, which precludes an implementation before 2015.

In March 2011, the Council of the City of Wedel has opted for a bypass along the northern edge of Wedel (so-called northern bypass frond ) and requested the zoning method therefor the competent ministry in Kiel. The B 431 is to lead Flerrentwiete / Steinberg on the Voßhörntwiete on the Holmer Road on the northern outskirts frond across the street Autal and widths way to the Pinneberger road and at the junction. This Wedel prefers a bypass that protects the Wedeler and Hetlinger marshes before road construction and fronds in the same degree a calming of -town offers as originally planned bypass south to Wedel. The decision in Kiel is still pending. The Wedeler Council decision was preceded by a long discussion between residents and political leaders.
