Carrépuis

Carrépuis is a commune with 283 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Somme in the Picardie region. It belongs to the district to Montdidier and Roye Canton.

Geography

Carrépuis is located in northern France, 100 km north-east of Paris, 44 kilometers southeast of Amiens, the capital of the Picardy region, 32 km north of Compiègne. Neighboring communities of Carrépuis are Gruny the northwest, Balâtre in the northeast, Roiglise in the south and the cantonal capital of Roye in the southwest. The municipality covers 550 hectares. The average height is 90 meters above the sea level.

Carrépuis is a climate of type Cfb ( according to Köppen and Geiger ) assigned: Warm Temperate rain climate ( C ), fully wet ( f), the warmest month below 22 ° C, at least four months above 10 ° C ( b). There is a maritime climate with moderate summer.

History

Carrépuis was in 1179 under the Latin name Quadratus puteus (, square fountain ') in a document by Pope Alexander III. first mentioned. The eponymous square wells existed in the Gallo -Roman period (52 BC to 486 AD) and was located near a Roman road. There shards of an amphora and a decorated spoons were found during archaeological excavations.

The locality was in the Middle Ages and the Ancien Régime to PREVOTE of Roye. In 1198, Raoul was Flamand Seigneur of Carrépuis. In the 14th and 15th centuries there was another fief named Quesnoy. It was in the course of the years in the church property. 1472 hid the canons of the collegiate Saint- Florent in Roye, the relics of its patron there. They feared that Louis XI. From 1636 to 1914 the town was known for its bell foundry. The foundry was the Cavillier family that has poured like bells of the cathedral of Amiens.

1793 Carrépuis received in the wake of the French Revolution ( 1789-1799 ) under the name Carrépuis the status of a municipality and 1801 by the administrative reform under Napoleon Bonaparte ( 1769-1821) again under the name Carrépuis the right to local self-government.

1848 created the architect of the arrondissement, Pierre Decheu, the plans for a school building. The school was built on 10 February 1853.

Demographics
