Cavallermaggiore

Cavallermaggiore ( Piedmontese Cavlimor / Caolimor or Cavalimor ) is a municipality with 5460 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Italian province of Cuneo (CN ), Region Piedmont.

The neighboring municipalities are Bra, Cavallerleone, Cherasco, Marene Monasterolo di Savigliano, Racconigi Ruffia, Sanfrè, Savigliano and Sommariva del Bosco.

The municipality covers an area of 51 km ².

History

In a document of 1028 is a Cavallarium Witberti the speech for the first time. In a bull of Pope Lucius III. 1185 is the name then Cavallarius Maius, of which the present name is derived. During the Middle Ages several families exercised dominion over the place. From 1418 on, he belonged to the house of Savoy, which meant that he became in 1861 part of the Kingdom of Italy. 1863, King Victor Emmanuel II of the town city rights.
