Cebu City

Cebu City ( officially: City of Cebu, Cebuano: Dakbayan sa Sugbo or; Filipino: Lungsod ng Cebu ) is the capital of the province of Cebu and was founded in 1565 as the first Spanish settlement in the Philippines.

The city is situated on the homonymous island. Cebu City is the center of Metro Cebu, the second largest metropolitan area in the country, which also still includes the cities of Lapu -Lapu, Mandaue City, Talisay City and Danao City and economically also radiates to the south to Mindanao. The Mactan -Cebu International Airport in Lapu -Lapu City is just twenty minutes drive from Cebu City. The metropolis has the most important commercial port of the Philippines, an oil refinery and several universities. The city has since 2008 with the Asia IT Park, a special economic area, which houses primarily companies in the telecommunications and information technology (call centers and software companies ) and exclusively export- oriented components ( Business Process Outsourcing). Cebu City was the starting point of the Christian colonization of the Philippines by Ferdinand Magellan and is now archbishop 's seat.
