Life

Cecilia Bartoli's parents - Angelo Bartoli and Silvana Bazzoni - were both opera singers. Her mother gave the children because quite a promising solo career as soprano; She sang in the choir from now on Rome's Opera House and was dedicated to her three children Gabriele († 1998), Cecilia and Federica. The parents' marriage broke up. The father continued his career as a tenor in Rimini, had there but only a mediocre success.

The mother recognized early the great talent of their daughter Cecilia. This, however, would first be a tour guide or a flamenco dancer. Her mother persuaded them to cultivate their talent for singing, and gave her about 16 years ago the first singing lessons. Silvana Bazzoni remained during Cecilia's studies at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, which she recorded at the age of 17 years, her only voice teacher.

Career

Her first appearance on a stage was Cecilia was nine years old in Puccini's Tosca as a shepherd boy in Rome. In 1985, at the age of 19, Bartoli appeared in a talent show on Italian television. They only took the second place, yet they attracted attention. So she finally made her debut as Rosina in Rossini's Barber of Seville at the Opera her hometown at the age of 19 years.

The international breakthrough came in 1988 with her appearance at the Paris Opera to Tribute to Maria Callas, through which the conductor Herbert von Karajan, Daniel Barenboim and Nikolaus Harnoncourt were aware of them.

Later she was invited by Herbert von Karajan in Salzburg, where they rehearsed Bach's B Minor Mass with him. Since Karajan died, it never came to the performance. Accompanied by Daniel Barenboim and Nikolaus Harnoncourt, she specialized in Mozart roles and lesser-known works from the baroque and early classical music and quickly became internationally known. 3/1993 she sang at La Scala Milan in " Don Giovanni " ( Ricardo Muti / Philippe Auguin ) In 1996 she made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera as Despina in Mozart's Così fan tutte. The following year, she sang the title role in Rossini's La Cenerentola.

Among her recent roles Fiorilla belong in Rossini's Turco in Italia at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Cleopatra in Handel's Giulio Cesare conducted by Marc Minkowski, Semele under William Christie at the Zurich Opera House and the Clari in Halévy 's opera conducted by Adam Fischer, also in Zurich. 2007/ 08 was dedicated to Cecilia Bartoli the great singer 's first international opera star Maria Malibran ( 1808-1836 ). 2009, she worked in her Sacrificium project with the history of Kastratensänger and recorded a CD with arias that were written for castrati. In the following year they will both Cenerentola, as well as Desdemona in Rossini's Otello embody.

Music

Cecilia Bartoli speaks except Italian, English, French, Spanish and German, but sings most like in their native language, because the feeling for the language it is safest here. She says of itself that it would endeavor to always then develop and to explore the repertoire and constantly see it from other perspectives. Important for them is to penetrate to the roots and always something new to discover.

Cecilia Bartoli discovered some original score forgotten composers and operas and found that several arias in the course of time had been adapted to the preferences of the singers - and she sings from now on, as the composer has provided it in the original score (example: Bellini's Norma). Furthermore, it seeks to authenticity by working with orchestras, playing with old instruments ( for example, Concentus Musicus Wien, Il Giardino Armonico, Orchestra La Scintilla, and others). This also caters to her voice - which is referred to by critics as small - because orchestras from early eras include fewer instruments than is usual today.

On a double CD in 2009 she took " castrato arias " and commented on the issue in the booklet entitled Sacrificium. She remembered the fact of the suffering and the art of the Kastratensänger of the 18th century.

Cecilia Bartoli sings regularly in major concert halls and opera houses in the world. Her current parent company is Zurich Opera House. She lives near Zurich and is married to the Swiss baritone Oliver Widmer.
