Chambilly

Chambilly is a commune with 506 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Saône -et -Loire in southern Burgundy.

Location

Chambilly lies on the west bank of the Loire over the place Marcigny at an altitude of about 250 meters above sea level. inst in the ancient cultural landscape of the brionnais. The place is located about 25 km ( driving distance ) southwest of Paray -le- Monial and about 33 kilometers north of Roanne. The places worth seeing Anzy -le- Duc, Semur -en- brionnais, Iguerande, Montceaux- l'Étoile and Saint -Julien -de- Jonzy are all within a radius of about 15 kilometers; Charlieu is located about 24 kilometers southeast.

Demographics

In the 19th century the place had at times more than 1,000 inhabitants. The phylloxera crisis and the mechanization of agriculture ensured since a significant population decline.

Economy

The hilly region of Chambilly has always been dominated by agriculture, which until the 19th century, viticulture was also operated. Meanwhile, the cattle ( Charolais cattle ) plays a major role.
