Saint-Martin-du-Lac
Saint -Martin -du -Lac is a commune with 255 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Saône -et -Loire in southern Burgundy.
Location
Saint -Martin- du- Lac is located on the east bank of the Loire at an altitude of about 250 meters above sea level. inst in the ancient cultural landscape of the brionnais. The place is located about 27 km ( driving distance ) south of Paray -le- Monial and about 28 kilometers north of Roanne. The places worth seeing Anzy -le- Duc, Semur -en- brionnais, Iguerande, Montceaux- l'Étoile and Saint -Julien -de- Jonzy are all within a radius of about 15 kilometers; Charlieu is located about 20 kilometers southeast.
Demographics
In the 19th century the place had at times more than 700 inhabitants. The phylloxera crisis and the mechanization of agriculture ensured since a significant population decline.
Economy
The hilly surroundings of Saint -Martin -du -Lac has always been dominated by agriculture, and up into the 19th century and viticulture was operated. Meanwhile, the cattle ( Charolais cattle ) plays a major role. The place itself functioned until the early 20th century as a craft, trade and service center for several hamlets and isolated farmsteads in the area. Today, the apartment rentals plays a certain role in the revenue of the place.

Church of Saint -Martin
The Parish Church ( Église Saint -Martin ) is a single-nave building of the 19th century with a Romanesque apse and a south tower from the late 11th century.
