Champvans-les-Moulins

Champvans -les -Moulins is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Champvans -les -Moulins is located at 252 m, about 9 km west of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in a small valley in the gently undulating countryside between the rivers of Doubs in the south and Ognon ( in the north).

The area of ​​2.52 km ² municipal area includes a section south of the Ognon. The main part of the territory occupied by the valley of the village creek, which drains the area north to the Lanterne and thus to Ognon. This trough is flanked on both sides by rolling hills that rise up to 307 m. The northern municipal boundary runs along the forest Bois du Chanois.

To Champvans -les -Moulins the hamlet of Les Moulins part (240 m). Neighboring communities of Champvans -les -Moulins are Pouilley -les-Vignes in the north and east, Serre -les- Sapins and Vaux -les- Prés in the south and Champagney and Noironte in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Champvans in 1283 under the name Chanvanz. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the cathedral chapter of Besançon, came by purchase in the course of the 17th century, however, the rule Audeux. During the Thirty Years' War Champvans was severely affected. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Champvans does not have its own church; the first school was established in 1842. In order to avoid confusion between different municipality of the same name, Champvans 1936 was officially renamed Champvans -les -Moulins.

Population

With 352 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Champvans -les -Moulins is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the range between 30 and 60 people, a striking population growth was recorded since the early 1960s. Since then, the population has increased more than sixfold.

Economy and infrastructure

Champvans -les -Moulins was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village.
