Charles III of Navarre

Charles III. called the noble (le Noble) (* 1361 in Mantes -la -Jolie, Yvelines, France, † September 8, 1425 in Olite ) was King of Navarre, Duke of Nemours and Count of Évreux.

Life

He was the son of King Charles II of evil and Joan of France, daughter of King John II

On May 27, 1375 he married Eleanor of Castile (c. 1363-1415/16 ), daughter of King Henry of Trastamara occasion of his wedding, he received the earldom of Beaumont- le -Roger, but he was held at the French court and the county to him by military intervention Bertrand du Guesclin withdrawn.

When his father's death in 1387 he inherited the title and estates.

In 1404 he renounced by a treaty definitively on the counties of Évreux and Beaumont ( who went to the Crown ) and its claims on Champagne and Brie, was awarded the principality and the peerage raised county Nemours and a pension of 12,000 livres and a compensation of 20,000 Écu.

1423 he united the various warring communities to the city of Pamplona, in whose cathedral he is buried with his wife. His tomb (built 1413-1419 ) is regarded as a masterpiece of Gothic architecture.

He and his wife Eleanor had eight children:
