Claude Guéant

Claude Gueant ( born January 17, 1945 in Vimy, Pas -de- Calais ) is a high French official. He was nominated as successor by Brice Hortefeux to the 40th French Interior Minister of the Fifth Republic on 27 February 2011 and held that post until 15 May 2012.

From 2002 to 2007 he was Director in the Cabinet with Nicolas Sarkozy in his time as foreign and finance ministers. During the presidential campaign, 2007, he was Sarkozy's election campaign office.

On 16 May 2007 he became Secretary General ( the most senior civil servant ) at the Élysée Palace. Because of its influence he was called at that time Cardinal, President or Vice- Premier No. 2. 27 February 2011 Xavier Musca, was his deputy, appointed as his successor.

Claude Gueant is a Knight of the Legion of Honour.

Criticisms

Crusade

Against the background of the international military operation in Libya in 2011 Claude Gueant spoke of a crusade to be cited by President Nicolas Sarkozy. However, this is precisely the objection, which the Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi rose up against this military action.
