The Coat of Arms of Côte d'Ivoire was adopted in its current form in 2001.

Description

The completely decorated in gold coat of arms shows in its center a shield with the heraldic right -facing head of an elephant. The elephant is inextricably linked to the symbolism of the country, because it is the largest occurring in terrestrial animal and the country's name is derived from the ivory of the tusk of the elephant.

Above the shield a sun rises, symbol of a new beginning.

Beseitet is the shield of two palms.

History

The previous coat of arms was established by decree on 26 June 1964.

The first coat of arms from 1960, the silver elephant's head was on a blue background. This background was created in 1964 changed to green, to obtain a better match with the national flag.
