Côtebrune

Côte Brune is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Côte Brune is on 483 m, about 22 km east of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the Jura, on the so-called first plateau on the edge of a hill overlooking the Talniederung of Audeux.

The area of ​​3.22 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the plateau of Côte Brune, the average is 480 m wide and is part of the first Jura plateau. It is partly consisted of arable and meadow land, partly by forest. To the east, the plateau descends to the Talniederung Audeux. To the southeast, the municipality's area extends over an arroyo in the catchment of Audeux to the adjacent forest height, which leads to the high plateau of Valdahon. Here the highest elevation of Côte Brune is achieved with 584 m.

Neighboring communities of Côte Brune are Aïssey in the north, Magny- Châtelard in the east, the south and Gonsans Glamondans in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Côtebrune formed its own little rule. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Côte Brune does not have its own church; it belongs to the parish Gonsans.

Attractions

The square keep was part of a former manor house from the 14th or 15th century. In the village are farmhouses are preserved in the characteristic style of the Franche -Comté from the 17th to 19th centuries.

Population

With 71 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Côte Brune is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 148 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Côte Brune was well into the 20th century, a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are almost no jobs in the village. Many workers are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the department of roads that lead from Besançon Sancey -le- Grand and Baume -les -Dames after Ornans.
