Dagestanskiye Ogni

Dagestanskije Ogni (Russian Дагестанские Огни ) is a city in the southern Russian republic of Dagestan with 27.923 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located on the northeast edge of the Great Caucasus about 120 km southeast of the Republic capital Makhachkala on Derb Enter channel, one along here about five kilometers from the coast of the Caspian Sea extending irrigation canal.

Dagestanskije Ogni is subordinated administratively directly to the Republic.

The city lies on the opened on this section in 1900 main line of the North Caucasus Railway Rostov - Makhachkala - Baku ( 2403 line kilometers from Moscow). By Dagestanskije Ogni the M29 highway Rostov -on-Don leads - Azerbaijani border.

History

Dagestanskije Ogni written in 1914 in connection with the construction of a glass factory, received in 1938 the status of an urban-type settlement and 1990, the city law. The name stands for Dagestan fire and refers to the natural gas occurring here, which was originally used for the operation of the glass work.
