Damagaram Takaya is a rural municipality and the capital of the eponymous department Damagaram Takaya in Niger.

Geography

Damagaram Takaya is located in the Sahel. The neighboring municipalities are Alakoss in the north, Moa in the northeast, Gouré in the east, and Guidiguir Guidimouni the southeast, Albarkaram, Gaffati and Mazamni in the southwest and WAME in the northwest. The municipality is divided into 61 administrative villages, 38 traditional villages, 30 hamlets and a water source. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village Damagaram Takaya.

The Forêt de classée Tounfafiram North with 295 acres and the Forêt de classée Tounfafiram Ouest with 485 hectares are two nature reserve forest areas in the municipality of Damagaram Takaya. The protected status was made in 1953.

History

Damagaram was originally a settlement of Kanuri, who came from Bornu and were driven out by Tuareg, in an inhabited area of Hausa. The name was later adopted Damagaram for the territory of the Sultanate of Zinder. The Kanuri settlement subsequently received the name Damagaram Takaya, which means " Damagaram in the bush ".

The French colonial administration set up in the early 20th century, a canton in Damagaram Takaya a, the 1923 resolution Canton Kafara was connected. 1964 divided an administrative reform in Niger seven departments, the predecessor of the later regions, and 32 arrondissements, the predecessor of the later departments. Population

At the 2001 census Damagaram Takaya had 32 933 inhabitants. For the year 2010 44.714 inhabitants were calculated. In Damagaram Takaya members of the Fulani subgroups Katchinanko'en and Wodaabe and the Tuareg subgroup Ichiriffen, all of which specialize in remote pasture life.
