The Romans had several castles with a corresponding infrastructure, linking the neighboring Ibias with its gold mines. There are still bridges which are still used today.

To this day,

The place is mentioned in a few medieval sources. For the first time he appears in a charter of 912 of the monastery of Santiago de Degaña on. The authenticity is challenged, however, in professional circles. In the 13th century Degaña belonged to the Kingdom of León. The relations have continued to this day. The families Quiñones and Queipo were until the early 19th century, the dominant noble houses of the region, which is still to be seen in today's coat of arms.
