DLX4

The homeobox protein DLX- 4 is a protein, for encoding the known among people DLX4 gene.

Function

Many homeobox containing genes of vertebrates have been identified based on the similarity of their sequence to the developmental genes of Drosophila. Members of the Dlx gene family contain a homeobox that is related to the " Distal-less " ( Dll ), a gene that is expressed in the head and limbs of a developing fruit fly. The " Distal-less " gene family ( Dlx ) comprises at least six different members, DLX1 - DLX6. The DLX proteins have a function in the forebrain and in the development of the facial skeleton. Transcription three variants for this gene have already been set forth, the length of one of these variants is not. Studies of the two splice variants revealed that a coded isoform acts as a repressor of the β -globin gene, while the other isoform lacks this feature.
