Geography
Geographical Location
The community Dörpen located in the southeastern coast of the delta channel and the Ems. The county town of Meppen is located about 30 kilometers to the south, and the town of Papenburg is located approximately 14 kilometers north of Dörpen.

History

Planned coal power plant
The STKW energy Dörpen GmbH & Co. KG, a subsidiary of EnBW and the Swiss energy company BKW FMB Energy, planned to build a coal-fired power plant with a capacity of approximately 900 megawatts Dörpen 2015.
This project was a cause of controversy between local government and " Clean energy " of the citizen initiative.
