Eduardo Herrera Riera

Eduardo Herrera Riera ( born September 7, 1927 in Carora, Venezuela; † 27 October 2012 in Lara, Venezuela) was Bishop of Carora.

Life

Eduardo Herrera Riera received on 8 December 1955, the ordination to the priesthood for the Diocese of Barquisimeto.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him Auxiliary Bishop on January 7, 1965 in Cumana and Titular Bishop of Sesta. The Apostolic Nuncio to Venezuela, Luigi Dadaglio, consecrated him bishop on 25 March 1965; Co-consecrators were Crispulo Fontúrvel Benítez, Bishop of Barquisimeto, and Crisanto Darío Mata Cova, Bishop of Cumana. He took part in the last session of the Second Vatican Council.

On November 30, 1966, he was appointed Bishop of Guanare. On 31 October 1970 he was appointed auxiliary bishop in Barquisimeto and Titular Bishop of Ubaza. On 5 July 1994 he was appointed by Pope John Paul II appointed Bishop of Carora.

On 5 December 2003, Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation due to age.

After radiation and chemotherapy Eduardo Herrera Riera called in April 2012 on the deathbed President Hugo Chavez to end the violence in the streets and to release all political prisoners in Venezuela.
