Edward C. Meyer

Edward C. Meyer ( born December 11, 1928 in St. Marys, Pennsylvania ) is a retired American general in the U.S. Army and Chief of Staff of the Army.

Biography

Edward C. Meyer was born in St. Marys, Pennsylvania. After the completion of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York in 1951, he was promoted to lieutenant. He then attended the U.S. Army Infantry School at Fort Benning, Georgia.

After further training activities and uses in several areas studied Edward C. Meyer at the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia, and was until 1965 in the department coordination with the Chief of Staff of the Army employed.

During the Vietnam War he was an officer in the 3rd Brigade of the 1st U.S. Cavalry Division and later from 1965 to 1966 commander of the Second Battalion of the 5th U.S. Cavalry Regiment.

In 1967 he graduated from the National War College and was used in the planning and operation department of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He returned to Vietnam back, commanded the 2nd Brigade of the U.S. 1st Cavalry Division and then became Chief of Staff of this division.

In 1975, Edward C. Meyer in the Department of Defense of the United States and was subsequently as General Chief of Staff of the Army by 1979 until 1983.

Private

Edward C. Meyer married in 1954 and has three sons and two daughters. His daughter Nancy married the drummer of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Michael Cartellone.
