Carl E. Vuono

Carl E. Vuono ( born October 18, 1934 in Monongahela, Pennsylvania ) is a retired general of the United States Army.

Life

The officer with Italian - Finnish descent began his military career after the completion of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York in the field artillery. 1967 to 1968 he attended the Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Fredericksburg, Virginia, and from 1972 to 1973 the United States Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

Carl E. Vuono served in the Vietnam War as an artillery officer from 1966 to 1967 in the 1st Infantry Division, 1st Cavalry Division in 1970 and until 1971 as commander of the First Battalion of the 77th Artillery Regiment of this division.

1985 to 1986 he was deputy chief of staff for operations and planning in the U.S. Army. After several assignments in the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command, 1986, he was the Commanding General. Then he was on 23 June 1987 to 21 June 1991 as General Chief of Staff of the Army, and thus the highest ranking officer in the United States Army.

As a result of his resignation from the army in 1993 he went to the Military Professional Resources, a private company founded in 1987 military and security companies.

Private

He married 1960 Patricia A. Hall and has a daughter and two sons.

Awards

In 2003, the Distinguished Graduate Award him the Association of West Point has been assigned. He also has an honorary doctorate in Public Administration from the University Shippensburg.
