Dennis Reimer

Dennis Joe Reimer ( born July 12, 1939) is a former Chief of Staff of the Army on 20 June 1995 to 21 June 1999 and a former general of the U.S. Army.

Life and military career

Reimer grew up in Medford, Oklahoma. He graduated from the United States Military Academy and was promoted to Second Lieutenant in June 1962. After the promotion, he attended the Field Artillery Officer Orientation Course at Fort Sill. He graduated from the Ranger and Airborne School and served from 1963 to 1964 as Assistant Executive Officer and Executive Officer, 20th Artillery, 5th Infantry Division ( Mechanized).

In June 1965, he was First Lieutenant Permanent and Temporary Captain in November 1965. He returned 1965-1966 back to the CONUS to attend the Artillery Officer Advanced Course at Fort Sill and Fort Bliss. Reimer ordered next the Company C, 11th Battalion, 3rd Brigade, U.S. Army Training Center, Fort Benning from 1966 to 1967. Afterwards, he was from 1967 to 1968 aide- de-camp of the Commander, Armed Forces Staff College, Norfolk, Virginia. He was promoted to Temporary Major in September 1968, in June 1969 the permanent captain. Reimer attended the Command and General Staff College in 1970 until 1971. He was promoted to Lieutenant General in September 1987, and was the commander of the 4th Infantry Division ( Mechanized) at Fort Carson from 1988 to 1990.

He was promoted to Lieutenant General By in July 1990, deputy chief of staff for operations and plans of the U.S. Army and was in the Military Staff Committee of the United Nations in Washington DC from 1990 to 1991. He received his fourth star in June 1991 as Vice Chief of Staff of the Army by 1991 to 1993. His position on peace in Bosnia - Herzegovina and Kosovo will be credited. From 20 June 1995 to 21 June 1999, he was the 33rd Chief of Staff of the Army. Reimer left the active service in August 1999. Upon his retirement, Reimer served as Director of the National Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism in Oklahoma City.

Private life

Dennis Reimer married Mary Jo Powers on December 28, 1962. He has a daughter and a son.
