Elegies (Machine Head DVD)

Elegies is the first live DVD of the American thrash metal band Machine Head. She appeared in 2005 on Roadrunner Records.

Origin and background

Main part of the DVD is a live recording of the concert, Machine Head played at London's Brixton Academy on December 5, 2004. At the same point the band already recorded their live album Hellalive. For the first time in the band's history Head concert pyrotechnics used in a Machine. At the concert, the theme song of American horror film The Omen was used as an intro. During the actual concert Machine Head played a medley of cover versions of bands like Sepultura, Metallica, System of a Down, Iron Maiden and Pantera. For copyright reasons, this medley is not seen on the DVD.

In addition to the concert, the DVD includes a documentary about the making of the studio album Through the Ashes of Empires, tour impressions and the music videos for the songs Empire, Days Turn Blue to Gray and The Blood, Sweat the, the Tears. For the documentary and the tour Impressions sighted the band over 300 hours of footage. Originally, the DVD should the title Through the Ashes of England wear.

Björn Backes from the online magazine Powermetal.de described in his review Elegies as a reference work in the thrash metal genre, as the band " have adjusted the height of the last tour for this recording ." For Rafael Hofmann of the online magazine My Revelations Elegies may be missing under any Christmas tree, but criticized the " confused camera work ". Yvonne Bielig by the online magazine Bloodchamber language a " full recommendation not only for fans of the band, but also for lovers of energetic concert recordings ", and awarded nine out of ten points, even if " a more sumptuous packaging and a few songs have more no harm ".
