Name

The original name comes from the Old High German word Elsapha Els for alder and the Indo-European word means what Ap water. The explanation arises from the fact " a passing of alder watercourse ". The river gave the community its name Else field. The same name origin has also the current flowing in the nearby River Aschaff (of Ascapha ).

Geography

Elsavaquelle

The Elsava originates northeast of Hessenthal, in the municipality of Mespelbrunn, in a narrow valley at about 350 meters above sea level. NN. It arises from two major sources, the Cold Fountain and the Fountain designated as Elsavaquelle. The Cold fountain is located in a swampy area on the main road in 2308 and feeds a small pond. The spring water of the springs directly Elsavaquelle a column in the rock. It is one of the largest sources in the Spessart. After heavy rain events occur more sources from the shore. The flowing there Kaltenbach meanders through a clearing and unites approximately 400 m to the stream from the cold wells. From Hessenthal the creek bears the name Elsava.

Course

In a valley, the castle is Mespelbrunn. After Heimbuchenthal, the so-called Neuhammer ( the municipality of Bach dam belonging ) opens from the left of the dam creek. The Elsava then flows through the communities Eschau and Else field, where it flows into the Main.
