History

The prehistoric settlement: Numerous archaeological finds in the collection of the Lüneburg Museum show that is expected of an intensive colonization of the districts of the individual villages since the late Neolithic Age; individual find spots, discovered by the Oerzener hobby archaeologist Otto Nottorf, dated even in the older and middle sections of the Stone Age. In the prehistoric settlements, among which are those also to mention necessarily from the time of Christ's birth in Embsen and Oerzen, however, the direct forerunner of today's villages can be seen not mandatory. They come from a time in which the Germanic tribe of the Lombards is mentioned in ancient sources as residing in Northeast Lower Saxony. As late as 2003, four ovens were discovered during the construction of a pipeline in the neighboring district Rettmer that were used in the time of Christ's birth to the iron production. There, the Lüneburg Museum had received in 1935 reported two more such furnaces. Your fixed location given today's villages, however, only with the introduction of the medieval manorial system in the region; So the earliest in the middle of the 9th century.

The beginning of the written recorded history: In the case Oerzens a time prior to or during the 10th century is probably probably here. During this time ( exactly: in 988 ) of the neighboring Tellmer is referred to as being in possession of the Saxon comital the Bardonen. It is - according to the historian Gudrun Pischke - a not exactly datable Mainz deed of 1104/1105, the Oerzen (and probably not far from the location Glüsingen ) owes its first mention - although in the case Oerzens the first preserved even in the original document from the 1298 dates. One of the oldest references Oerzens in the native historical literature can be found in the Lüneburg publican Urban Friedrich Christoph EVula. The quote in question is: " Oerzen, also Verdisch - Oerzen, which house 7 points ( Oerzen heard ) ... to Amtsvogtei Garlstorf. . " Embsen itself appeared to historian Thomas Vogtherr According to the mid-13th century in a Lehnsverzeichnis the family of edema on.

The oldest monument Embsens stands on the border district Heiligenthal. It is immediately adjacent to the so-called Schnedestein and one small stone with an arrow. These known, always in the local history literature emerging landmarks between Oerzen and the district Heiligenthal allow an interesting look at the history of the early political and ecclesiastical units in this room. As a first cut relationship should be provable for the year 1418 already, it is certainly possible, at least to date the smaller, occupied at the latest in 1582 for " Cross Stone " at Oerzen also in the Middle Ages.

Arguably the most important monument of the Middle Ages within the community Embsen however be mentioned is certainly the Embsener church. Handed As in the family history of those of Estorff, the founding of the church by the family of Estorff in 1288, at a time in which they their original seats in Bardowick and probably also in the now defunct place Estorf was abandoned ( at Ebstorf ) and new seats in Uelzen - Veerßen ( 1292 ) and Barnstedt founded or took over.
