The 9th Grand Prix euro vision, which is the official title this year, was held in the Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen on 21 March 1964. The event was hosted by Lotte Wæver. For the first time Portugal took part in this competition, Sweden paused for an artist strikes.

At an incident occurred when before the performance of the Belgian contribution man wanted to storm the stage in protest with the words "Down with Franco, down with Salazar " against the military regime in Spain and Portugal for the first time participating. This event is also the reason why the Danish broadcasting to today holds (DR ) the recording of the show under wraps.
Spain sent the trio Los TNT. There were admitted until 1970, however, only a maximum of duos as interpreters, the group renamed itself " Nelly, Tim and Tony," said Nelly understood as the singer and her brothers as a background choir.
Each country was given a total of nine points, of which the first place winner received a point within the jury five points, the second three points and the third party. If only one song to be nominated, it would receive all nine points. Should there be two, would receive the first six points and the second three points.
The winner was Gigliola Cinquetti who sang her winning song of Sanremo Festival Non ho l' eta for Italy. Udo Jürgens for Austria had with his post Why just why? a big hit.
