The 7th Euro Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2009 was held on 21 November 2009. The event rights were awarded the Ukraine, who were able to prevail against the competitors from Belarus and Serbia and already the Euro Vision Song Contest held in 2005. The competition took place during our Sports Palace, a multifunctional hall with 6,000 seats, which had also served as the venue for the ESC 2005. As the winner of the Netherlands emerged with the song click clack of Ralf.

Participation

Only 13 countries confirmed their participation, which meant a new negative record. Bulgaria, Greece and Lithuania withdrew from the competition. Sweden, which paused in 2008, returned in 2009 back again.

Retraction participants

  • Bulgaria: Bulgaria in 2008 was not satisfied with the outcome of the Junior Euro Vision Song Contest and withdrew its participation in the Junior Euro Song Contest 2009.
  • Greece Greece: ERT withdrew due to the bad economic situation in Greece back from the event.
  • Lithuania Lithuania: Lithuania took due to financial constraints either on the Euro Vision Dance Contest or in part in the Junior Euro Song Contest.
