The Lazy horn is a 2,681 m above sea level. M. high mountain in the Bernese Alps in the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland. It forms the border of the municipalities Iseltwald Grindelwald and forms the highest point of the municipality Iseltwald. It has its name Faulhorn of the " Fulen " loose rock layers of marl and shale. At the summit there is a mountain hotel, this is in the area of Grindelwald village.

Panorama

From the top of the digester Horns open towards the north and west views over the Lake Brienz and Lake Thun far as the Jura. In the south, one can see the four peaks of the Bernese Alps, including the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

History

In the " Magazine for Naturopathy Helvetia " of 1783 a first ascent of septic horn by Grindelwald's Pastor Friedrich Kuhn is mentioned.

In 1822, a guest house patent for the top of the digester horn was granted. The following summer, a restaurant began operating - at that time the highest altitude in the Alps. The still existing Faulhorn mountain hotel opened in 1832.

The digestion was repeated horn location meteorological experiments. 1880 was installed " self registering thermometer " at the summit, which provided a summer hourly weather records. In the fall, the experiment was terminated, however, there was no one at the summit to raise the movement.

Projects to tap the Faulhorn transport connections failed. In 1907, a narrow gauge railway with the distance of the Grosse Scheidegg to the Faulhorn a concession. However, the project failed because of the resistance of homeland defense. Earlier ideas for a railway line from the Schynigen plate for digestion horn and a cable car from the Grosse Scheidegg had already existed at the Faulhorn that have not been realized.

Access

The Lazy Horn is accessible to the public only on foot via different access possibilities from among other

  • Iseltwald,
  • Burglaunen,
  • Brienz to the Axalp,
  • Grindelwald on the Bussalp or the First,
  • Wilderswil on the Schynige plate.

It consists of Grindelwald to First a gondola and Bussalp a road with buses. From Brienz to Axalp there is also a road with bus connections from Wilderswil to Schynige plate upside Schynige Platte Railway.

In winter, the access is limited. However, there are winter hiking trails from ridge and from Bussalp Faulhorn.

Winter sports

In winter, from Faulhorn a toboggan down to Grindelwald. The 15 km descent is according to Grindelwald, the longest toboggan tourism in Europe.
