Iseltwald is a municipality in the Interlaken- Oberhasli administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

The municipality is located on a delta on the southern shore of Lake Brienz in the Bernese Oberland. The community has long had no access road and was only accessible by water. Since the construction of the A8 motorway, the community has its own motorway exit. Before the construction of a road from Bönigen exit led to the village. The highest point is 2687 meters high Faulhorn.

Iseltwald belongs to the parish Gsteig near Interlaken.

Population

History

1146 the village was first mentioned as Iseltwalt. After a dispute with Interlaken to the important forest were 1303 all rights Iseltwald to Interlaken. 1342 Iseltwald was devastated by the sub Waldnern. With the secularization of the monastery in 1528 the village came to Bern and Interlaken bailiwick. besides fishing, fruit growing, cattle and Alpine 1680 offered a glassworks in addition work.
